The Year’s Elite Eight Positives

2020-12-22T15:12:27-05:00December 22nd, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

As we close out this year of a global pandemic, economic constraints and overall increased stresses, it is easy to focus on the negatives over the past 12 months. While it may be challenging to think of the positives, it makes it easier when you think about our favorite place, St. Tammany Parish. Here are just eight examples: Beautiful holiday lights shine brightly throughout St. Tammany Parish. Photo courtesy of Joanie Johnston of LouisianaNorthshore.com. The Residents – The people who live in St. Tammany Parish seem to share one common trait, a true sense of community. The Golden

It’s Merry and Bright on the Northshore

As with everything else in 2020, the holidays will look and feel a little different. However, they will still be merry and bright! St. Tammany Parish offers so many wonderful sights and sounds during the month of December. While there are too many to name here, I have selected a few that are definitely worth experiencing. St. Tammany Parish is full of bright lights and merriment during the holidays. Santa in Slidell Olde Towne Slidell is a magical place anytime during the year. On December 5, the town gets into the spirit with the Community Christmas Parade. The

The Arts of Attraction

2020-10-23T15:27:21-04:00October 26th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

By the time a typical November rolls around in St. Tammany Parish, we would have enjoyed a plethora of festivals, fairs and other fun activities. As with the last several months, we have experienced cancellations of too many events to name. However, what I love most about our Parish is how it keeps things going! This month, three art events are attracting my attention, all in one day, November 14! The Northshore is known for its amazing offerings of fine and visual arts. Art Event #1 – Covington Three Rivers Virtual Art Festival I have always loved seeing

Get Outside, Inside St. Tammany Parish

This time last year, we were gearing up for some amazing fall festivals. As with spring and summer, autumn is definitely different for the 2020 season. One of the many things I love about St. Tammany living is you never lack for outdoor activities. Social distancing is somewhat built-in! Here are three cool options to enjoy as the weather cools: Leisure in Lacombe The first time I tried to paddleboard may likely be my last. While I knew my balance was a little off due to less exercise during coronavirus, I had no idea just how much it was! That’s

Three Covington Restaurants: One Delicious Thing After Another

2020-08-24T15:56:04-04:00August 24th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, our back-to-normal continues to evolve. Not sure if you feel like COVID-19 stands for the number of pounds gained over these last several months, but it is spot-on for me. I want to thank the amazing St. Tammany Parish restaurants that have helped add those pounds. While there are too many to list in one post, here are three of my favorites in Covington: Del Porto Ristorante Oh my gosh, whenever you crave fresh Italian food (always for me), look no further than Del Porto Ristorante. In addition to their typical delicious offerings, family-style dinners

Park It Here in St. Tammany Parish

2020-07-27T14:08:43-04:00July 27th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

We all know the coronavirus has taken its toll on so many things this year. Being able to socially distance is more important than ever, so I have three park recommendations to enjoy the great outdoors in St. Tammany Parish. Park #1 - Fontainebleau State Park This photo of the Fontainebleau Pier is so beautiful, it almost looks like a painting! If you are looking for amazing sights while getting in some exercise, Fontainebleau is the place to be. The park is named after a recreation area near Paris beloved by the founder of Mandeville. Located along the

Off, On and Around the Northshore

2020-06-19T15:08:48-04:00June 19th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

Over the last few months, our parish, state and nation have experienced a roller coaster of emotions. We have seen some critical lows and some brilliant highs. What stands out most in St. Tammany Parish is the amazing resilience of our residents. In this spirit, we want to spotlight three really big “highs” in the latest news: Capping Off a Great Year We are so excited that all eight high schools in St. Tammany Parish will celebrate graduations on their football fields! With the ever-changing event schedule, St. Tammany Parish Public Schools faced the question of how to

The Northshore Has That Lovin’ Feeling – Part Two

2020-05-28T18:58:27-04:00May 28th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

As St. Tammany Parish and the entire State of Louisiana continue through the reopening phases from COVID-19, I definitely feel spotlighting the Parish itself is worth another post. After all, the community is a major reason why the Northshore is an ideal choice to call home. Our Schools Naturally, our seniors’ graduation ceremonies looked a little different this year. That didn’t stop several of the drive-through celebrations, such as the one for Pearl River High School. If you have yet to see the 20-second commencement speech challenge, check out the kickoff here. Kudos to the St. Tammany Parish Schools for

The Northshore Has That Lovin’ Feeling

While I typically write about all the really cool things to do on the Northshore and surrounding places, it seems appropriate this month with the Coronavirus pandemic to write about the really cool residents of our Parish. The people of this amazing area of Louisiana always seem to show that lovin' feeling when it comes to taking care of each other. Our Schools While our parents had to learn “new math,” we have all had to adapt to a new way of learning. Teachers, administrators, staff, parents and students have all experienced an adjustment period. The St. Tammany Parish Public Schools have

Geared for Fun with Three Gulfport Spots

2020-03-26T16:58:16-04:00March 26th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

As a continuation of last month’s post, I took a short drive to Gulfport recently to experience the town. With food and drink covered, here are three fun spots to make for a complete day.* Fun Spot 1:  Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum I love discovering museums that offer a unique spin on art. This place features dozens of model trains, trails and scenes to fascinate just about anyone. It boasts the largest LEGO railroad display in the entire state, which makes it worth the trip alone. You can even ride one of the outdoor trains to cap off the
