Thanksgiving Weekend is the official kickoff to holiday fun, and St. Tammany Parish is up for the challenge! The long weekend is traditionally a time to gather with family and friends, and it is also the tradition of these three special events:

Tammany-Turkey-Trot-2021

Start Thanksgiving Day off with the Tammany Turkey Trot (so you can have that extra piece of pie).

Turkey Talk #1 – Tammany Turkey Trot

This annual event is the perfect start to the holiday weekend. We all know we are going to overindulge, so why not get in some exercise to burn those extra calories beforehand? With two races and courses for a 5k and five-miler, it is just a matter of how ambitious you are feeling! Both races begin at 8 a.m. on November 25 at the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center in downtown Covington. Each course offers beautiful views and scenery as you meander through the historic streets. Turkey Talk #2 – Get Wrapped up in Mandeville

The day after Thanksgiving is a shopper’s paradise. Local stores, restaurants and galleries have been there for us, and this is the ideal opportunity to show our support by shopping local. The town of Mandeville will be all wrapped up in festive décor to welcome shoppers, beginning November 26 and running through the holiday season. Most stores are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for your shopping pleasure.

Turkey Talk #3 – Christmas in the Country

One of our favorite Thanksgiving Weekend festivities is back! The City of Covington and merchants of Lee Lane present Christmas in the Country, open November 26 and 27, and every Saturday until Christmas. Shops throughout downtown Covington offer special shopping events, some with refreshments and live music, while you discover one-of-a kind gift items and amazing finds.

St. Tammany Parish is a special place throughout the year, however it truly becomes magical during the holiday season. The Parish offers so much to do and see, and yes, we are talking turkey!
