As with everything else in 2020, the holidays will look and feel a little different. However, they will still be merry and bright! St. Tammany Parish offers so many wonderful sights and sounds during the month of December. While there are too many to name here, I have selected a few that are definitely worth experiencing.

St. Tammany Parish is full of bright lights and merriment during the holidays.

Santa in Slidell

Olde Towne Slidell is a magical place anytime during the year. On December 5, the town gets into the spirit with the Community Christmas Parade. The parade begins at 4:30 p.m., with decorated golf carts, holiday costumes and more. Of course, the stars of the show will be Santa and Mrs. Claus. Be sure to stay for the end, as you can participate in the Christmas tree lighting.

Colors in Covington

Prepare to be dazzled by all the lights of Covington’s 12 Days of Christmas. The lighted displays are placed throughout the downtown historic district. I love strolling down the streets with a cup of hot cocoa, being the first in my family to call out what the display is (four calling birds; nine ladies dancing) and getting in some gift shopping. The free event begins every evening at dusk from December 11 through January 6. Click here for the location map.

Merriment in Mandeville

If you find yourself looking for that unique gift for your mom or the perfect thing for your picky niece, you should definitely check out the Christmas Past Market on Girod Street in Mandeville. Besides the gift-seeking, you will enjoy music, food and treats. Increase your merriment by donning an “ugly sweater” or a Santa hat. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 12, so there is plenty of time to cross everyone off your list!

The Northshore has lots of other opportunities to get into the holiday spirit. Check out louisiananorthshore.com for additional events. Before you know it, you will be singing Fa La La!
