Over the last few months, our parish, state and nation have experienced a roller coaster of emotions. We have seen some critical lows and some brilliant highs. What stands out most in St. Tammany Parish is the amazing resilience of our residents. In this spirit, we want to spotlight three really big “highs” in the latest news:

Capping Off a Great Year

St. Tammany Parish graduate

We are so excited that all eight high schools in St. Tammany Parish will celebrate graduations on their football fields!

With the ever-changing event schedule, St. Tammany Parish Public Schools faced the question of how to properly handle graduation ceremonies. Parents, teachers and administrators wanted their graduates to have their special day with their classmates. So, the parish is holding all eight ceremonies on the respective schools’ football fields. This is definitely a throwback to my high school graduation. While we’ll experience sweltering temperatures, it will be worth it for lifetime memories.

Lights On at the Lake

While many fireworks celebrations have been cancelled, the City of Mandeville is keeping the lights on! The lakefront is the place to be for the annual  “Light Up The Lake” event.  Fireworks begin at 8:30 p.m., and you can enjoy them from your car along Lakeshore Drive. Add to the display by tuning your radio to 84.7 FM for synchronized music. You just gotta love Mandeville’s patriotic spirit.

Good News Around Northshore

Amidst all of the coronavirus pandemic, many St. Tammany Parish seniors were continuing along their success path. One senior, Jordan Grigsby, became the first Northshore High School player to be named the 2019-20 Gatorade Louisiana Girls Soccer Player of the Year. While Jordan didn’t start playing soccer until the fifth grade, she achieved a great deal in the last seven years. In addition to being consistently named to the All-State team, she was the Division I Defensive Player of the Year and ranked as the South Region’s No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2020 by Top Drawer Soccer. She will be headed to Appalachian State University in the fall (and yes to play soccer)!

These three news items are just a glimpse of what you will find here, up on the Northshore!
