The Northshore Has That Lovin’ Feeling

2020-04-27T14:39:32-04:00April 27th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

While I typically write about all the really cool things to do on the Northshore and surrounding places, it seems appropriate this month with the Coronavirus pandemic to write about the really cool residents of our Parish. The people of this amazing area of Louisiana always seem to show that lovin' feeling when it comes to taking care of each other. Our Schools While our parents had to learn “new math,” we have all had to adapt to a new way of learning. Teachers, administrators, staff, parents and students have all experienced an adjustment period. The St. Tammany Parish Public Schools have

Mandeville Is Mandatory for Good (Everything)

When I first discovered St. Tammany Parish after venturing outside the New Orleans area, the first place I happened upon was Mandeville. Having loved what I experienced, it was time to visit this beautiful place again. Start the Day Off Right Louisiana is known for its delicious food, and what better way to start off the day than with a delicious Cajun-and-Creole-inspired menu! When I Googled breakfast joints, one immediately got my attention. Liz’s Where Y’at Diner lived up to its unique name. While there were so many fantastic options, including a whole section on eggs Benedict varieties, I opted

Three Festivals to Fall for

2019-10-10T11:55:41-04:00September 23rd, 2019|Blog, Uncategorized|

In last month’s post, I spotlighted three unique sights to experience in St. Tammany Parish. This month, the focus is on fall festivals. The Parish has plenty of festivals to enjoy throughout the season. Here are three over the October 18 – 20 weekend.   Three-Day Festival Whether you attend the Festival of the Lake or the Monster Mash, you are in for a treat. There will be games for all ages! This festival has been around for quite a bit. Festival of the Lake, presented by Our Lady of the Lake in Mandeville, runs October 18-20. The

With the hot days of summer winding down, now is the perfect time to experience some really cool things without leaving the Parish. Receiving recommendations from locals all over St. Tammany, here are my suggestions for three memorable sights that basically scream Louisiana. Site Sight #1 - Cabin Fever Right on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain, beyond the city lights of New Orleans, you can become one with nature at Fontainebleau State Park. Spread over 2,800 acres, this nature lover’s paradise features recreation of all sorts. Whether you want to hike, bike, kayak, birdwatch or just laze on the sandy

Come On, Get Happy (Hour)

We all know New Orleans is known for many things, one of which is the options available for happy hour. However, there really is no need to leave St. Tammany Parish, as we have plenty of places to enjoy a beverage or two. Below are three recommendations, no matter what type of libation you desire. Get Crafty Come for a cool cocktail, stay for a hot meal. When you want something a little out of the ordinary, a great place to satisfy that thirst is Lola. Holidays Like a Hallmark Movie

2018-11-21T21:03:30-05:00November 20th, 2018|Blog, Uncategorized|

I am so excited about spending some time in St. Tammany Parish for the holidays. I have heard from several locals that no matter what you are wanting to do, whether that is eat, drink or be merry (perhaps all three), you have plenty of options and opportunities that rival what you see in a Hallmark movie. I have highlighted three events I plan to enjoy the first half of December, and I think you will too! Covington Celebration There will be something for all ages at St. Tammany's Holiday Festival of the Arts. Downtown Covington will be

Hit the Trace Jack, and Come on Back

After a night of indulging in some of the best seafood ever along the Northshore, I knew I had to get in some exercise. I had heard about Tammany Trace, a 31-mile, hike-and-bike trail that runs throughout St. Tammany Parish and is the state's top-rated rail-to-trail. While I hiked the trail in the winter, here's a photo of the trail in springtime! Originally a corridor for the Illinois Central Railroad, Tammany Trace spans from downtown Covington, through Abita Springs, Mandeville and Lacombe, ending in Slidell. The St. Tammany Parish government purchased the abandoned corridor on December 20, 1992, then

St. Tammany Parish Is a Welcome Retreat

2018-01-09T21:10:24-05:00January 9th, 2018|Blog|

New Orleans is a fantastic, exciting city. For me, it makes for a wonderful, sightseeing vacation, yet I never envisioned living there. On all my trips to the Crescent City over the last 20 years, I had yet to discover what lies north beyond Lake Pontchartrain. I knew there had to be something on the other side, but I had no idea how special that something would be. So, one day I jumped in the car and headed off to explore. I traveled along the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge, a 24-mile span that boasts being the longest bridge over water
