Get Outside, Inside St. Tammany Parish

This time last year, we were gearing up for some amazing fall festivals. As with spring and summer, autumn is definitely different for the 2020 season. One of the many things I love about St. Tammany living is you never lack for outdoor activities. Social distancing is somewhat built-in! Here are three cool options to enjoy as the weather cools: Leisure in Lacombe The first time I tried to paddleboard may likely be my last. While I knew my balance was a little off due to less exercise during coronavirus, I had no idea just how much it was! That’s

Three Covington Restaurants: One Delicious Thing After Another

2020-08-24T15:56:04-04:00August 24th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, our back-to-normal continues to evolve. Not sure if you feel like COVID-19 stands for the number of pounds gained over these last several months, but it is spot-on for me. I want to thank the amazing St. Tammany Parish restaurants that have helped add those pounds. While there are too many to list in one post, here are three of my favorites in Covington: Del Porto Ristorante Oh my gosh, whenever you crave fresh Italian food (always for me), look no further than Del Porto Ristorante. In addition to their typical delicious offerings, family-style dinners

The Northshore Has That Lovin’ Feeling – Part Two

2020-05-28T18:58:27-04:00May 28th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

As St. Tammany Parish and the entire State of Louisiana continue through the reopening phases from COVID-19, I definitely feel spotlighting the Parish itself is worth another post. After all, the community is a major reason why the Northshore is an ideal choice to call home. Our Schools Naturally, our seniors’ graduation ceremonies looked a little different this year. That didn’t stop several of the drive-through celebrations, such as the one for Pearl River High School. If you have yet to see the 20-second commencement speech challenge, check out the kickoff here. Kudos to the St. Tammany Parish Schools for

The Northshore Has That Lovin’ Feeling

2020-04-27T14:39:32-04:00April 27th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

While I typically write about all the really cool things to do on the Northshore and surrounding places, it seems appropriate this month with the Coronavirus pandemic to write about the really cool residents of our Parish. The people of this amazing area of Louisiana always seem to show that lovin' feeling when it comes to taking care of each other. Our Schools While our parents had to learn “new math,” we have all had to adapt to a new way of learning. Teachers, administrators, staff, parents and students have all experienced an adjustment period. The St. Tammany Parish Public Schools have

Geared for Fun with Three Gulfport Spots

2020-03-26T16:58:16-04:00March 26th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

As a continuation of last month’s post, I took a short drive to Gulfport recently to experience the town. With food and drink covered, here are three fun spots to make for a complete day.* Fun Spot 1:  Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum I love discovering museums that offer a unique spin on art. This place features dozens of model trains, trails and scenes to fascinate just about anyone. It boasts the largest LEGO railroad display in the entire state, which makes it worth the trip alone. You can even ride one of the outdoor trains to cap off the

The Sweet and Sour of Gulfport, MS

2020-02-28T18:38:18-05:00February 28th, 2020|Blog, Uncategorized|

When you live on the Northshore, you have the advantage of getting to many places in a short period of time. One of those places is just 60 miles away to Gulfport, Mississippi. First, it is all about the food and drink. Stop 1 – The Sweet Look at these beauties! If you are looking for any type of oyster dish, the Half Shell is the place. The restaurant that was a must on my itinerary is the famous Half Shell Oyster House. While I had visited the Louisiana locations, there is something to be said about experiencing

Parade Around Town

There will be plenty of these to be had during Mardi Gras in St. Tammany Parish. New Orleans may be the first thing to come to mind in everything that is Mardi Gras. However, the Crescent City does not have a hold on all the fun. St. Tammany Parish knows how to celebrate the season in perfect fashion. After all, the public schools take an entire week off to enjoy the festivities. The following are three places to partake in Mardi Gras fun without crossing Lake Pontchartrain. Parade Around Covington In the bustling town of Covington, you get

The Capital of Cool – Part Two

2019-11-27T15:52:30-05:00November 27th, 2019|Blog, Uncategorized|

On my visit to Baton Rouge for an LSU game some weeks back, I was pleasantly surprised at just how cool this place is. Being just over an hour from the Heart of the Northshore in St. Tammany Parish, I knew it was well worth my time for a second look. Something Old With the Old State Capitol Building's majestic exterior, I felt like a princess walking into her castle. My first stop was a visit to the past. The Old State Capitol Building was the site of some significant historic events, including the state's secession from the

Three Festivals to Fall for

2019-10-10T11:55:41-04:00September 23rd, 2019|Blog, Uncategorized|

In last month’s post, I spotlighted three unique sights to experience in St. Tammany Parish. This month, the focus is on fall festivals. The Parish has plenty of festivals to enjoy throughout the season. Here are three over the October 18 – 20 weekend.   Three-Day Festival Whether you attend the Festival of the Lake or the Monster Mash, you are in for a treat. There will be games for all ages! This festival has been around for quite a bit. Festival of the Lake, presented by Our Lady of the Lake in Mandeville, runs October 18-20. The

Three Site Sights for Sightseekers

2019-08-26T15:08:19-04:00August 25th, 2019|Blog, Uncategorized|

With the hot days of summer winding down, now is the perfect time to experience some really cool things without leaving the Parish. Receiving recommendations from locals all over St. Tammany, here are my suggestions for three memorable sights that basically scream Louisiana. Site Sight #1 - Cabin Fever Right on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain, beyond the city lights of New Orleans, you can become one with nature at Fontainebleau State Park. Spread over 2,800 acres, this nature lover’s paradise features recreation of all sorts. Whether you want to hike, bike, kayak, birdwatch or just laze on the sandy
