There will be plenty of these to be had during Mardi Gras in St. Tammany Parish. New Orleans may be the first thing to come to mind in everything that is Mardi Gras. However, the Crescent City does not have a hold on all the fun. St. Tammany Parish knows how to celebrate the season in perfect fashion. After all, the public schools take an entire week off to enjoy the festivities. The following are three places to partake in Mardi Gras fun without crossing Lake Pontchartrain. Parade Around Covington In the bustling town of Covington, you get

We all know New Orleans is known for many things, one of which is the options available for happy hour. However, there really is no need to leave St. Tammany Parish, as we have plenty of places to enjoy a beverage or two. Below are three recommendations, no matter what type of libation you desire. Get Crafty Come for a cool cocktail, stay for a hot meal. When you want something a little out of the ordinary, a great place to satisfy that thirst is Lola. Holidays Like a Hallmark Movie

I am so excited about spending some time in St. Tammany Parish for the holidays. I have heard from several locals that no matter what you are wanting to do, whether that is eat, drink or be merry (perhaps all three), you have plenty of options and opportunities that rival what you see in a Hallmark movie. I have highlighted three events I plan to enjoy the first half of December, and I think you will too! Covington Celebration There will be something for all ages at St. Tammany's Holiday Festival of the Arts. Downtown Covington will be

No Whine for This Wine

On one of my visits to the Northshore, a local resident asked if I had been to Wine Country. Yes, I answered; I have visited Napa, California. She was referring to the area in Louisiana known for succulent grapes. Wines are created in the Pelican State? I was a bit skeptical, so off I went to Louisiana’s fabled Wine Country in Bush. Bush is a small town located 17 miles northeast of Covington. With all my travels to the area, I had never even heard of this town. Well, suffice it to say, it just may be the Northshore’s best-kept

Abita Springs Is Pint-Sized Fun

I recalled on one of my visits to the Northshore that Tammany Trace had a trailhead in Abita Springs. While I was not familiar with that location, I definitely have enjoyed an Abita beer or two. I knew there had to be an interesting story behind this New Orleans' favorite brewery. So off I went, starting my trek at the Covington trailhead. Knowing the distance from Covington to Abita via the Trace was less than four miles, I timed it perfectly to have lunch at the pub. Tammany Trace is a great way to get from one area to

Covington Is a Taste of the Good Life

On a recent trip to Louisiana's Northshore, I decided to stay in Covington, a delightful town just north of Mandeville. While the town has all the modern conveniences, it is a place resplendent with community spirit and history. Simply, it presents an incredible taste of what a less-stressed life has to offer. Unique restaurants. Outdoor recreation choices. Quaint shops and galleries. The Chimes Restaurant outdoor deck overlooks Bogue Falaya River. Covington has a wonderful collection of restaurant options from which to choose. Just take a peek at the listing on the Louisiana Northshore website here. A local
